Anandam Arambam launched The joyride began for Murali's son, Atharva, as his debut film was launched at Kamarajar Hall on October 9th. Vijaykanth: Vikram made Mariyadhai for me During the launch of Mariyadhai, the film's hero Vijaykanth informed everyone that he agreed when director Vikram approached him for Mariyadhai for two reasons: first, they have already worked together and made a blockbuster Vaanatthaipola and second, Vikram had written this story exclusively for Vijaykanth. Mariyadhai was launched by producers council president K. Ramanarayanan and Pyramid Saimira Swaminathan on October 9th. Chief guests included Sun Pictures COO Mr. Saxena, Kalaipuli Dhanu, Khaja Moideen, Sivasakthi Pandian, Anbalaya Prabhakar, Ibrahim Rowthar, and young directors Ameer and Venkat Prabhu Also present were the film's heroines: Ambika, Meera Jasmine and Meena. But Ambika, who had lost a few pounds and looked as beautiful as she did during her halcyon days, was the cynosure of this function. Gautham Menon is a father again Ace director Gautham Menon became a father to healthy and cute baby boy last week. The director's happiness knows no bounds because of this new arrival in his family. Gautham is making sure that he spends as much time as possible with his wife and newborn son. Marubadiyum Oru Kadhal The movie launch of Marubadiyum Oru Kadhal (produced by Connect Films and Bollywood Cine Productions) was brimming with young blood and fresh faces, as the lead actors of the film are new faces to Kollywood. The film was launched by producers council president K. Ramanarayanan. Anbalaya Prabhakaran, K. Muralidharan, and directors Bhagyaraj and Ameer were chief guests at the function. Vasu Bhaskar, who directed Veda starring Arun Vijay and Sheela, is directing this film, which is based on a true incident that took place in a London-based medical college. According to Vasu, this is a big-budget film that will be shot entirely in London. The film introduces Malayalam actor Anirudh to Kollywood. Famous actress Saroja's daughter Joshna and a newcomer from Kerala, Vani Kishore, also make their debuts in this film. Music is by Srikanth Deva. Kannan is the cinematographer. Aegan: Audio launch on Hello FM Hello FM pioneered audio launches at radio stations with the launch of Mohan starrer Sutta Pazham's audio. Now for the first time, a leading actor's film audio has been launched in its premises Ajith starrer Aegan's audio. In such innovative 'live on air' audio launches, almost all fans are able to participate in the function through the lively commentaries of RJs and live interviews with the stars; further, there are no space or security constraints anyone who can tune in is a part of the audio launch. So, when Aegan shared its prestigious audio launch moments, many tuned in to Hello FM, a famous radio broadcast wing of Malar publications and enjoyed it. The audio was launched by Yuvanshankar Raja and the first copy of audio CD was received by Mr. Rajeev Nambiar, president and chief operating officer of Hello FM. After that, the songs from Aegan were aired by the RJs. About a year ago, we witnessed the audio launch of Katradhu Tamizh at Sun Music office and now we have audio launches at radio stations. Mallika Sherawat as Silk Smitha A biopic will be made on the legendary Kollywood glamour actress Silk Smitha, without whom a film was considered incomplete in the 80s. Ekta Kapoor, queen of television soaps and daughter of yesteryear Bollywood actor Jeetendra, is making this biopic in Hindi. When the astute producer decided to make a film on this actress whose personal life was rife with many depressing incidents eventually leading to her suicide in 1996, she had already decided Mallika Sherawat would play her on the screen. Well, who can match Smitha's oomph factor other than Mallika! Except for the heroine, crew members and other details have not yet been decided. There is no word yet on whether this biopic will be made in Tamil as well, as Smitha worked extensively in the Tamil film industry. Smitha, who debuted in Vandi Chakram as ‘Silk' and took the Southern film industry by surprise by her glamour, went on to act in 200 odd films in various southern languages. She grabbed Bollywood's attention after Moondram Pirai (starring her with Kamal Haasan and Sridevi) was made in Hindi as Sadma. After that, she acted in a few Bollywood flicks too. Considered an epitome of Indian glamour as seen only in sculptures of olden days, Smitha ruled almost every male's heart in the South. But sadly, the beautiful actress failed to control her own life. M.A. Jinnah turns full time producer M.A. Jinnah, the famous distributor who turned producer with Seval which stars Bharath in the lead, has decided to turn full time producer. At present, he has plans to make three films Saravedi, Naanum En Sandyavum and Satham. With Seval slated for a release on Diwali, the entrepreneur has begun concentrating on his next film Saravedi, which stars Jeevan and Poonam Bajwa in the lead and Prakashraj in a vital role. This film will be directed by John Mahendran, director of Sachin and son of famous director Mahendran who made Uthiri Pookkal. Mr. Jinnah's other film, Naanum En Sandyavum, will be directed by Bhupathi Pandian, director of successful films like Devathaiyai Kanden, Thiruvilayadal Aarambam and Malaikkottai. His fourth film, Satham, will be directed by Saami who shocked Kollywood with Mirugam and Uyir. It will have two heroes and at present, a search is on for the lead actors. I will direct Ajith: Venkat Prabhu Venkat Prabhu has declared that he will direct Ajith in a film once he completes Saroja. The director who made Chennai 600028 talked about his inspiration and his foray into films and his friendship with Ajith. Venkat, who has a penchant to tread the paths less-travelled, said that he grew up watching his father direct movies. But all this did not spur the director in him to grow. Rather it happened when he went to London to study and took up a part-time job as an usher in a cinema hall. He happened to see the magic of Hollywood films and the awe it inspired. It was then he decided to bring out the creative energy in him. And he did it in style. He made Chennai 600028, which was a beautiful comedy film about an underdog cricket team winning a prestigious tournament. It opened up new avenues to everyone. No one had ever seen such a film before. And a history was made. Venkat Prabhu is a very happy man today. He has secured a place in Kollywood as a respectable director who can make films on par with Hollywood. Venkat Prabhu also reminisced about his long-time friend Ajith. Venkat had acted alongside Ajith in a few films. At that time, Venkat said, he would share his stories and ideas with Ajith and how they should be made into films. He said Ajith would be engrossed in listening to him and he would encourage him to go ahead and try his hand at directing. Ajith would also tell him that he will definitely act in his film one day. And the actor meant it with his heart. That is the reason he has agreed to act in a Venkat Prabhu film. Venkat says that he will start working towards it once he is done with the filming of Saroja. Sarathkumar's daughter Varalaxmi NOT ACTING yet! Malicious rumour-mongering or yellow journalism, Supreme Hero and politico R. Sarathkumar is just not pleased about the recent news spreading around town that his daughter Varalaxmi is acting opposite Simbu in his next movie, supposedly scheduled for a Valentine 2009 release. Sarathkumar is ensuring that these rumours are removed ASAP from all online and offline publications because 'it is not true', in his own words. Varalaxmi (fondly known as Varu amongst her friends), her father and their families are all very clear on when, how and with whom Varalaxmi will start her on-screen movie career (if at all!) and they would announce it formally to the media and public when they are ready, they say.
