Ex-chief selector backs Jaydev’s selection

Mumbai: Former selection committee chairman and Indian wicket-keeper Kiran More has backed the selection of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Niranjan Shah’s son Jaydev’s nomination as skipper of the India-A team in a three-match one-day series in Israel next month, saying it was ‘justified’.

“I think there is nothing wrong in selecting Jaydev to lead India-A as he has been playing well since the last two years. People should not jump to conclusions that he has got the job simply because he happens to be the son of a top board official,” More told Cricketnext.com on Wednesday.

“If you go through the records, you will see that Saurashtra won the last edition of the Deodhar Trophy at Vishakhapatnam under his captaincy and also made it to the Ranji Trophy semi-finals, which according to me. Saurashtra earlier struggled to make it to the Elite Group in the past,” he added.
